The hacking group ShinyHunters claimed responsibility for the data breach at Instructure, the parent company and creator of the Canvas learning management system, according to The New York Times and CNN. Instructure said Canvas has more than 30 million active users worldwide and over 8,000 institutions as customers.
A widespread hack of a popular online learning platform called Canvas disrupted college campuses across the state on Thursday, interrupting final exams and temporarily limiting access to course materials.
Hampton Roads schools and colleges were among the institutions across the country impacted by a hack of the widely-used learning management system, Canvas, on Thursday, barring students and staff from using it for several hours.
Most users regained access to the platform hours after a hacking group said it had attacked Canvas’s parent company and breached 275 million people’s data.
